Description Bolted Joint Integrity is a 2-Day “Combination” course consisting of the Fundamentals of Bolting Assembly (HBI-ASME-566) and Bolting Assembly – Power Equipment (HBI-ASME-567).

HBI-ASME-GP566 Fundamentals of Bolting Assembly (8 hours)
This course provides comprehensive coverage of the fundamentals of bolted joint assembly in pressure vessel and piping applications (per PCC1). This course cover principles of fasteners, bolt elongation, bolt load, gasket types, gasket sealing functions, flange types and standards and identification of joint components. The course also includes instruction on bolted joint assembly preparation, friction, and importance of using specified lubrication, ensuring proper load, calibration of equipment, flange and joint inspection and reporting defects. Topics include preparation for joint closure, gasket handling and installation, joint assembly procedures, sequences and patterns and safe joint assembly and disassembly. The course also provides and emphasis on health and safety precautions and protective equipment, manual torque tightening, safety precautions for power bolting equipment and joint quality assurance.

HBI-ASME-GP567 Bolting Assembly - Power Equipment (8 hours)
This course covers the practical assembly of bolted joints and the operation of power equipment (per PCC1). The operator assembles and tightens flanges using a range of power torque bolting tools and tensioner equipment. This is an intermediate course with emphasis placed on safe use of power bolting equipment in the assembly process. The course covers bolting safety and joint preparation, review of bolting principles & safety, review of bolting operator safety, selection of appropriate power equipment, tool calibration and maintenance. Topics include bolted joint assembly, review of torque charts, parameters, patterns, tightening and loosening sequences with hydraulic torque equipment. Also covers bolted joint assembly with hydraulic tension equipment, hydraulic tensioning principles, tensioning charts, parameters, procedures, patterns, tightening and loosening using hydraulic tensioning. Also includes bolted joint assembly using hand-held power pneumatic and electric torque tools and use of specialty fasteners.
Audience Experienced technician, assembler, engineer or supervisor, courses cover bolting fundamentals and safe operation of equipment, sufficient for participant to assume responsibility for independently assembling and inspecting bolted joints.
Prerequisite Participant has satisfied 8 hours of Safe Bolting Principles and Practice or equivalent.
Objectives
  1. Explain fundamentals of bolting principles, components and relevant standards.
  2. Describe preparation needed for bolted joint assembly.
  3. Summarize safe bolting precautions and joint quality assurance.
  4. Demonstrate safe bolted joint assembly using power torque equipment.
  5. Demonstrate safe bolted joint assembly using hydraulic tensioning equipment.
